Abstract

This paper reviews how Augmented Reality (AR) can improve Korean language retention, particularly for international learners facing difficulties with vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. Adopting the ASER (Augmented Sensory Experience and Retention) Framework, which incorporates emotional engagement, interactive storytelling and gamification, the paper synthesizes current research to highlight$\boldsymbol{A R}$'s potential in creating immersive, context-rich learning environments. The findings reveal that while AR effectively increases motivation and short-term recall, its use in Korean language education is still limited. Key gaps are identified, including the need for long-term retention studies and better integration of Korean linguistic and cultural features. Future research should prioritize the development of$A R$tools that are pedagogically grounded and designed to support sustained Korean language retention, with a focus on complex linguistic structures and cultural context.
