AI for Green Logistics: Analyzing the Impact of Technology on Resource Optimization and Environmental Efficiency
Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) is being identified as an important facilitator of green logistics. The study is a mixed-method study that investigates its effects on the optimization of resources, energy usage, waste minimization, and reduce carbon-footprint considering regression, correlation, and semi-structured interviews with 150 logistics firms at various levels of AI-adoption. Findings indicate that AI adopters who are highly advanced exhibit a much lower energy consumption (-0.18, p = 0.001) and carbon emission (r = 0.75) along with 60 percent variation in the sustainability practices. The qualitative themes prove that the primary mechanisms are predictive analytics, route optimisation, and warehouse automation. This empirical study of the benefits of AI in the environment is more substantiated in the context of firm size as compared to previous simulation-based studies. Its results provide practical implications to companies and policymakers who aim to achieve the narrowing regulatory and consumer sustainability requirements.
