Abstract

An 18GHz-bandwidth (BW) sawtooth-FMCW synthesizer is presented. First, a chirp-tracking ILFT with feed-forward and frequency-tracking loop ensures robust and continuous tracking of fast chirps. Second, a fractional-BW (FBW) doubler enables sawtooth generation and extends both the BW and FBW while halving the chirp error. The synthesizer measures a 36% FBW sawtooth FMCW chirp from 40.5 to 58.5 GHz with a 0.02% chirp error at a chirp rate of$2.2 \text{GHz} / \mu \mathrm{s}$without DCO-nonlinearity digital pre-distortion.
