A Wearable Hybrid Rectenna With a Shared Structure for Near- and Far-Field WPT
Abstract
This work presents a compact textile-based wearable hybrid WPT rectenna capable of operating in both magnetically coupled near-field (NF) and radiative far-field (FF) conditions. The antenna employs a structure-shared strategy to integrate NF coil and a monopole rectenna into a common configuration, achieving high integration and wearability. The rectifier circuit also adopts a hybrid NF and FF design and features a single-layer lumped-element architecture that minimizes volume as well as conductive and dielectric losses, thereby ensuring high robustness and rectification efficiency. Measured results show that the antenna achieves 16.8% fractional bandwidth from 820–970 MHz in the FF operation and a 12–16 MHz bandwidth in the NF operation. The hybrid rectifier achieves maximum RF-to-DC conversion efficiencies of 66.5% and 70% in the FF and NF regimes. Under practical conditions, the FF and NF rectenna modules can obtain output voltages of 0.484 V and 1.171 V, respectively. Overall, the proposed hybrid rectenna achieves integrated near- and far-field operation through joint antenna and circuit optimization, while preserving the desired electromagnetic performance without enlarging system volume.
