A Radiation-Scattering-Integrated Metasurface Antenna With Simultaneous Ultrawideband RCS Reduction and Circularly Polarized Radiation
Abstract
A radiation-scattering-integrated metasurface antenna is proposed to simultaneously achieve ultra-wideband radar cross section reduction (RCSR) and circularly polarized radiation. The unit cell of the proposed metasurface consists of a paperclip-shaped radiator, two right-angled metallic strips, and two parasitic metallic strips. When the unit cells are arranged into a checkerboard metasurface antenna and excited by a sequentially rotated feed network, the antenna simultaneously achieves ultra-wideband circularly polarized radiation and RCSR performances. Moreover, the RCSR bandwidth fully covers the antenna's radiation bandwidth. Simulation results indicate that the antenna exhibits a –10 dB impedance bandwidth of 57.72% (6.68–12.1 GHz), a 3 dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of 50.82% (6.75–11.35 GHz), and a peak realized gain of 16.72 dBic. In addition, the antenna achieves a monostatic RCSR greater than 10 dB from 5.6 to 15.1 GHz under normal incidence. Experimental results validate the proposed antenna's radiation and scattering performance.
