Abstract

This paper presents a novel antenna design based on Groove Gap Waveguide (GGWG) technology with a reduced Radar Cross Section (RCS). To achieve this, GGWG technology is combined with printed circuit board (PCB) technology, enabling the integration of a metasurface (MTS) to minimize the RCS. The radiating elements are implemented as subarrays of patch antennas. The patch array is excited through transverse slots in the GGWG, while reflection-canceling posts (RCPs) are incorporated to enhance bandwidth and a new transition for central feeding is designed. The design is optimized for a central frequency of 28 GHz. A prototype of the designed antenna was fabricated, assembled, and experimentally measured. The measurement results demonstrate excellent performance, validating the proposed concept that can be extended to other types of antennas. To demonstrate the latter, a novel circularly polarized radiating element has also been explored.
