Abstract

This work presents an open-source, configurable IR communication platform that supports both standard and custom protocols. Based on the MSP430G2553 microcontroller, the platform allows full configuration of IR protocol parameters via a PC-based graphical user interface. In particular, the carrier frequency can be configured between 3.9 kHz and 70 kHz, covering both standard IR and experimental protocols. The PWM duty cycle is adjustable from 10 % to 90 %, with a resolution of 1 %. Pulse and pause durations for logic “0” and “1” bits are configurable from 560 µs to 65 ms, supporting both fast and slow signaling schemes. The platform supports a wide range of protocols (NEC, SIRC, Samsung, Panasonic, and others). Experimental results confirm reliable signal generation, protocol compliance, and efficient memory usage, making the platform suitable for both the development and testing of standard and custom IR protocols. Additionally, the platform offers a high degree of customization while maintaining ease of use, making it particularly well suited for both research and prototyping environments.
