Abstract

The conventional millimeter-wave (MMW) single-input–multiple-output (SIMO) and multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging scheme provides multiple-angle illumination to sufficiently cover the imaged target. However, the high complexity of signal acquisition limits its application in practical systems. This letter proposes a planar segmented SIMO-SAR imaging scheme to overcome this problem. Although the single-input–single-output (SISO) phase migration (PSM) algorithm based on the equivalent phase center (EPC) approximation can reconstruct images for this scheme, a single compensation range is difficult to apply to precisely reconstruct range-distributed targets. A frequency-domain algorithm combined with the coherent factor (CF) method is proposed to suppress the sidelobes and noise. Our developed E-band personnel imager validates our proposed methods.
