Abstract

Cellular vehicle-to-everything communication (CV2X) has made significant advances in the field of intelligent transportation systems. Therefore, improving the accuracy of the existing velocity estimation techniques for cellular vehicles (CV) in 5G is necessary. In this letter, we propose a maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) for estimating CV’s velocity incorporating handover control parameters (HCPs) during a handover procedure. We investigate this issue using a stochastic geometry-based model of a coordinated multipoint (CoMP) transmission technique-enabled heterogeneous network (HetNet). We derive the variance and the corresponding Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) to analyze the performance of the estimator. Via simulations, we demonstrate that the proposed estimator is efficient and performs better than the existing handover count-based estimating methods.
