Abstract

This letter presents the Peak-Hitching VM framework for 5G C-RAN vBBU cost optimization. Targeting the core cost driver of overflow penalty, its key PHvM algorithm exploits RRH burst asynchrony to realize offline joint optimization of vBBU count, capacity, and mapping with O (NlogN) complexity. Extended online, it uses historical traffic for near-optimal provisioning. Evaluated on real-world traces, offline PHvM cuts costs by up to 69%vs. baselines, with Online-PHvM only 5% away from offline truth. It validates the first framework bridging spatial RRH grouping with temporal cloud billing.
