Abstract

This paper presents a solar photovoltaic (PV) powered charging system for electric vehicles (EVs) featuring an advanced closed-loop control scheme based on parallel operation of voltage and current controllers for the Dual Active Bridge (DAB) converter. A boost converter with a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm ensures optimal energy extraction from the PV array under changing operating conditions. The proposed control structure employs parallel voltage and current controllers to maintain a stable charging load voltage and support dynamic power transfer under variable solar irradiance. The DAB converter operating under Extended Phase Shift Modulation (EPSM) reduces switching losses and voltage overshoot compared with the conventional Single Phase Shift Modulation (SPSM) approach, thereby improving charging stability, battery lifespan, and overall system safety. Simulation results confirm that the proposed control strategy enhances voltage stability and overall performance of renewable-powered EV charging systems.
