Abstract

This is the ninth article for the Standards Column in the Reliability Magazine. This article discusses the collaboration between the IEEE Reliability Society Standards Committee (RS-SC) and the Computer Society Software and Systems Engineering Standards Committee (CS-S2ESC) in developing joint IEEE society-sponsored standards. This article describes the IEEE Standard Classification for Software Anomalies, IEEE 1044-2009, and proposes several revisions to this standard. The article explains what software anomalies are, and why they are important to understand when assessing systems and software reliability.
