OIRS-Assisted Hybrid THz/VLC Communication Under the Impact of Human Blockages
Abstract
The terahertz (THz) and visible light communication (VLC) technologies are expected to play a pivotal role in sixth-generation (6G) wireless networks, owing to their ability to support ultra-high data rates and wide spectrum availability. Integrating THz/VLC with optical intelligent reflecting surfaces (OIRS) has emerged as a promising approach for next-generation. In this work, we investigate an OIRS-assisted hybrid terahertz/visible light communicationaccess point (THz/VLC-AP) system under the impact of human blockages. While THz/VLC-AP links provide line-of-sight (LoS) transmission, the OIRS enhances non-line-of-sight (NLoS) communication. Consequently, the overall signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is derived by jointly accounting for both the direct THz/VLC-AP link and the OIRS-assisted signal components. Comprehensive performance evaluations are carried out to analyze key metrics, including spectral efficiency (SE), outage probability ($P_{o}$), blockage density ($\lambda_{B}$), and the number of OIRS elements.
