Advanced Image Encryption with 1-D Group Cellular Automata Techniques
Abstract
This study presents an image encryption method that uses one-dimensional Group Cellular Automata (1-D GCA). The proposed method combines Cellular Automata with symmetric-key cryptography to protect digital images from unauthorised access. The 1-D GCA generates pseudorandom sequences that change pixel positions and values, providing strong diffusion and confusion. The proposed method is evaluated on the Cameraman and Baboon images. The results show NPCR above 99.6%, UACI near 50%, very low correlation, and entropy close to 8. These values indicate high randomness and strong resistance to statistical attacks. The findings confirm that GCA is effective for image encryption and suitable for future improvements.
