Multimaterial Additively Manufactured Wideband Dual-Polarized Conical Four-Leaf Antenna Array With Bandwidth Enhancement
Abstract
This communication presents a wideband dual-polarized conical four-leaf antenna array utilizing metal-dielectric additively manufactured technology, enhancing the bandwidth without introducing additional resonant modes. The antenna element comprises a metal-dielectric co-printed octagonal pyramid-shaped radiator and a two-layer feeding structure. Four obliquely isosceles triangular patches are optimally positioned on alternating facets of the pyramid to maximize bandwidth, excited via a cross-slot coupled feed in the ground. Compared to conventional slot-coupled patch antennas, the proposed design significantly broadens bandwidth and improves port isolation without incorporating extra resonant structures. A 4×4 antenna prototype was fabricated and measured for validation. Measurements demonstrate an overlapped impedance bandwidth (IMBW) better than 60% across both ports covering the entireKu-band, with isolation exceeding 27 dB and a peak gain of 15.8 dBi. This approach leverages radiator geometry optimization instead of additional resonant structures for bandwidth enhancement and enables customized design via multi-material additive manufacturing, greatly simplifies the antenna configuration while establishing a promising pathway for future wideband antenna development.
