Compact Dual-Polarized Dual-Band Shared-Aperture Antenna Array With Novel Coplanar Configuration for Reduced Blockage and Wideband Performance
Abstract
This paper proposes a novel low-profile dual-polarized coplanar dual-band shared aperture antenna array (CO-DBSA). Unlike conventional stacked, embedded, or interleaved configurations, the low-band (LB) and high-band (HB) antennas are printed on a same substrate utilizing a dual-band wideband artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) and wideband self-decoupling strips (SDS) to eliminate mutual blockage and restore radiation pattern distortion in traditional designs. The AMC reduces the total array height by 50% (to 19.27 mm, 0.125 λL) while enabling dual-band operation. Incorporated SDS structures effectively suppress HB-induced current across the entire HB range, achieving a peak cross-band decoupling of 44 dB without compromising the LB performance. The simulated results demonstrate that this array operates within LB 1.65 to 2.25 GHz and HB 3.5 to 5.1 GHz with over 20 dB intra-band isolation in both bands. The CO-DBSA offers a compact, easily fabricated, and scalable solution for modern multi-band communication.
