Abstract

The phase-encoded linear sampling method (PE-LSM) is a qualitative inverse scattering technique for reconstructing the shapes of conducting targets. Previous work has demonstrated high-fidelity reconstructions using synthetic aperture data with a single transmitter and receiver, which is typically challenging for many inverse scattering approaches. In this paper, we propose a re-formulation of the PE-LSM in order to achieve the same benefits, but at significantly lower computational expense and with more straightforward implementation. We also propose a new strategy for improving robustness to noise. We demonstrate that the updated formulation achieves high-fidelity shape reconstruction with a consistent reduction in computation time compared to the original formulation. For bandwidths of 1500 MHz or more, the computation time is improved by an order of magnitude.
