Abstract

This work proposes a geometry-independent resonant slotted cavity-backed antenna array for millimeter-wave operation. Based on a WR28 waveguide, a cavity with three boundary slots enables broadside radiation, while impedance matching is achieved by inserting an FR4 dielectric rod surrounded by four metallic rods to suppress unwanted coupling between TE10 and TM11 modes. The prototype attains a −10 dB impedance bandwidth of 1.12 GHz (25.62 GHz to 26.74 GHz) and a peak realized gain of 10.93 dBi, showing good agreement with full-wave simulations and measurements, despite manufacturing tolerances. Its final size are 13 mm × 20 mm × 28 mm. By reshaping the cross-sectional area of the cavity, we design a second radiator that resonates in the same bandwidth, while offering a fan-like radiation pattern.
