Abstract

This paper presents a 915-MHz miniaturized conformal antenna designed for in-body medical devices, particularly nasogastric tubes. Fabricated on an ultra-thin substrate, the proposed antenna offers remarkable flexibility and a compact size of 10.3mm×16.9mm×0.0235mm. Through simulations using a multi-layered model, the antenna performance can be predicted more accurately. The experimental validation is made in both tissue-equivalent liquid and ground pork, where the antenna demonstrates a peak gain of −8.4 dBi with an omni-directional radiation pattern. Compared to existing literature, this antenna shows great advantages in gain, size, and bandwidth. Its potential for further applications in endoscopic capsules and cardiac pacemakers is also discussed.
