A Novel Design of High-Power-Density HTS Armature Synchronous Motor for Aviation Applications
Abstract
For the development of aviation electrified aircraft system, a motor with high power density is indispensable. The application of high temperature superconducting (HTS) materials in the motor stator to achieve high current density is a potential technology that is very promising to meet the requirements of high-power density motor for aviation electric propulsion system. In this paper, a 3 MW, 6000 rpm synchronous motor with ReBCO high temperature superconductor armature and permanent magnet rotor is designed. In this work, we studied the HTS armature design with toroidal winding, and analyzed the influence of the key structural parameters of the motor on the motor performance (power density, AC loss). At the same time, this paper studies the AC loss of HTS armature, and investigates a variety of measures to reduce AC loss, such as HTS tape filamentization, magnetic flux divider can successfully reduce AC loss, so as to ensure the feasibility of HTS armature.
