QMSIW Filtering Balun Using IPD Technology for High-Frequency Applications
Abstract
This letter presents a compact and low-loss filtering balun designed for 5G and millimeter-wave applications in the 24-GHz frequency band. The proposed filtering balun is fabricated on an alumina substrate. Miniaturization is realized through quarter-mode substrate integrated waveguide (QMSIW) resonators, while low radiation loss is ensured by an enclosed metallic via wall structure. A novel V-slot coupling structure is proposed to realize the magnetic-dominant coupling with the open sides of QMSIW resonators. Combined with an electric-dominant coupling structure, the 180° phase difference can be realized. Measured results demonstrate good agreement with simulations, showing a center frequency of 24 GHz, a 3-dB bandwidth of 7.9%, insertion loss of 1.4 dB, amplitude imbalance (AI) of 0.7 dB, and phase imbalances (PI) of and 3.4°.
