Armature Reaction Emulation to Mitigate Transient Frequency Deviations in Virtual Synchronous Generator Control
Abstract
The virtual synchronous generator (VSG) control has been recognized for emulating key characteristics of real synchronous generators (SGs). However, most VSG desgins stem from the steady-state swing equation and therefore overlook certain transient characteristics of SGs. Consequently, existing VSG frameworks fail to fully reproduce SG dynamics and miss potential opportunities for further performance optimization. Thus, in this brief, an emulation of the transient armature reaction is incorporated into the VSG control framework, which facilitates the mitigation of transient frequency deviations with minor control-loop modifications. The effectiveness of the modified VSG control is validated through experimental tests.
