Abstract

As a building material with distinctive regional characteristics and historical heritage, tiles have experienced long-term cultural evolution. Existing tile pattern designs often rely on the laborious vector graphic design process of professional designers. Although rule-based methods can generate tile patterns that can be expressed mathematically, it is difficult to use them to describe the cultural characteristics of the tiles directly. To address the above issue, we propose a structured deconstruction model and a spatiotemporal model of cultural evolution on Minnan tiles. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed models, we also propose a spatiotemporal featured tile generation algorithm based on the proposed models. The results of the conducted experiments further prove the effectiveness of the proposed spatiotemporal model of tile cultural evolution and the tile generation algorithm. The framework of the proposed method provides a new idea for the construction of cultural evolution models of other cultural heritages.
