Analysis of Magnetic Properties of Self-Bonding Electrical Steel and Its Application in High-Speed PMSMs
Abstract
Self-bonding electrical steel represents a novel coating technology for electrical steel laminations, exhibiting fundamentally different process characteristics from conventional welding methods. As lamination processes critically influence motor core performance degradation, comparative analysis of magnetic properties between self-bonding and welding cores becomes essential for precision motor design and process optimization. This paper first investigates the characteristics of the self-bonding process, by designing five self-bonding ring cores with varying stacking pressures and one welding ring core, concluded that 3MPa is the better stacking pressure. Then a comparison of magnetic properties between self-bonding ring core (at 3MPa) and welding ring core at different frequencies and temperatures is analyzed. On the experimental data, precise loss calculations for self-bonding cores considering temperature, frequency, and stacking pressure is conducted. Finally, simulation and experiment validate the impact of the two processes on the performance of high-speed motors.
