Abstract

In this article, the power dispersion factors (PDFs) are proposed to evaluate the performance for random pulse position modulation (RPPM), and the analytical PDFs can be simply expressed with the function of the duty ratio only. To validate them, the Fast Fourier Transform of the finite-length waveforms generated from the random lead/lag (RLL) pulse width modulation (PWM) and random center/edge alignment (RCEA) PWM are calculated, and they agree with the derived results. The overall PDF of the deterministic PWM is 0%, and both RLL and RCEA exhibit equal overall PDF between 50–100% dependent on the duty ratio.
