Common Ground Non-Isolated Modified High Voltage-Lift Topologies With Effective Utilization of Components
Abstract
Recent advancements in dc microgrids have increased the demand for high-gain dc–dc converters to achieve efficient energy conversion. Hence, novel transformerless modified high voltage-lift (TMHVL) converter topologies with common ground and effective utilization of components are proposed in this article to enhance the performance in dc microgrid applications. Further, to address practical concerns, the proposed topologies are carefully analyzed for the effects of circuit parasitics on voltage gain, and dynamic modeling is conducted to evaluate their performance and stability. The proposed converters achieve higher voltage gain, reduced switch current stress, and an improved effectiveness index compared to recent topologies. Their common-ground design removes the need for isolation, simplifying implementation, enhancing safety, and enabling modular integration in modern dc microgrids. To validate their experimental performance, laboratory prototypes of the proposed TMHVL topologies with specifications of 300 W, 300 V, and 50 kHz are fabricated, and experimental studies are carried out to ascertain the results obtained from analytical results. The measured maximum efficiency of the TMHVL topology-II is 95.8% at a power rating of 300 W.
