High-Speed Simultaneous Wireless Power and Data Transfer via Pulsed Voltage Injection
Abstract
This article proposes a novel simultaneous wireless power and data transfer (SWPDT) scheme based on pulsed voltage injection. This method utilizes the transient response of the wireless power transfer (WPT) system and uses voltage pulses as the data carrier. Data transfer is achieved by injecting voltage pulses on the primary side and detecting them on the secondary side. The pulse injection and detection are implemented using two plug-and-play magnetic rings. To generate pulsed voltage, a nanosecond pulse generator is proposed as the modulator with a compact design and simple control strategy. Compared with existing methods, the proposed scheme offers advantages of low-hardware requirements, high-data transfer rate, low latency, stable output, and no impact on power transfer efficiency. Specifically, this scheme does not require a high-frequency carrier source, additional coils, passive components, or complex parameter design, simplifying system implementation. In addition, using narrow voltage pulses as the data carrier features a highly digital characteristic, which facilitates high-speed, low-latency data transfer. Finally, as an injection-based approach, the proposed method does not affect system output voltage or power transfer efficiency. A 100-W prototype with a data transfer rate of 1.5 Mb/s is established to verify the feasibility of the proposed method.
