Carrier and Modulation Reconfiguration Control Strategy for Fast Response and Balanced Currents in Interleaved Buck Converters
Abstract
Achieving both fast transient response and accurate current sharing in multiphase converters remains challenge. A carrier and modulation reconfiguration (CMR) control strategy is proposed to address this issue and take full dynamic advantages of ripple-based control in interleaved buck converters. The CMR method dynamically reconfigures the carrier and modulation signals based on sampled ripple information from both voltage and inductor current. This approach eliminates the need for traditional PI regulation while achieving accurate current sharing and fast transient performance with a simple, hardware-friendly control architecture. Experimental results show that the proposed CMR control significantly improves both steady-state and transient performance, with output voltage ripple below 1.2% and a reduction in transient recovery time by at least 92.5% compared with conventional peak current mode control.
