Abstract

Currently, there is a need for radio frequency (RF) power measurement standards at higher frequencies than those supported by existing standards, such as for 6G technology. The objective of this work is to develop a dielectric waveguide microcalorimeter as a primary standard and measurement system for RF power in the frequency range of 140 GHz to 220 GHz. The feeding line of the microcalorimeter uses a dielectric waveguide instead of the metal waveguide employed in conventional set-ups. By using the dielectric waveguide, the microcalorimeter eliminates the need for additional thermal isolation sections. The combination of a wedge shape at both ends of the dielectric waveguide and a trumpet structure at the hollow metal waveguide ensures an efficient transmission line match. A thermoelectric sensor is being used as a transfer standard for traceable measurements and to calibrate RF devices in the R 1.8k waveguide band.
