A Robust, Simple Structure Double-Sided Linear Resolver Proposal
Abstract
A novel and robust double-sided linear resolver with a simple mechanical structure and straightforward winding layout is proposed in this work. In the proposed configuration, the signal windings are positioned on the mover, while the excitation windings are mounted on the stator. Both the double-sided mover and the stator employ a basic slotted structure with non-overlapping coils, and the excitation windings are arranged in a toroidal form within the stator slots. To accurately model the effects of spatial harmonics, originating from slot openings and winding configurations, as well as end effects, the Modified Winding Function Theory (MWFT) is applied. Numerical integration and modeling are carried out using the Mathematica software. Two resolver configurations, featuring 12-slot and 24-slot movers, are investigated. The resolver’s performance is evaluated under both healthy conditions and in the presence of an asymmetric air-gap fault, demonstrating its robustness against such anomalies. Simulation results are subsequently validated through experimental measurements, confirming the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed design.
