Abstract

Grid-forming (GFM) voltage source converters (VSCs) with current limiting control are prone to losing stability during grid faults. To address this issue, this letter proposes a novel hybrid GFM and grid-following (GFL) control method combining a specific power design criterion to enhance the transient stability of the system. By adopting appropriate power requirements, the proposed method not only ensures a steady operation of the system after grid faults, but also provides maximum voltage support within the current limit and power constraint. The theoretical analysis is validated by experimental results, which prove the effectiveness of the proposed method.
