Research on Self-Triggered Half-Bridge Submicrosecond Pulse Generators
Abstract
With the widespread application of all-solid-state high-voltage pulse generators in environmental management, biomedicine, material modification, and plasma research, there is a trend toward miniaturization, arbitrary polarity, and modularization. This article proposes a half-bridge submicrosecond Marx pulse generator topology based on self-triggered drive. The biggest feature of this topology structure is the combination of a self-triggered drive circuit and a special half-bridge circuit, which only requires two isolated signals to control the on/off of the positive polarity final stage discharge switch and the negative polarity first stage discharge switch, respectively, while the remaining discharge switches work step by step through the self-triggered drive circuit. This simplifies the design of the driving circuit in the Marx pulse generator. In addition, this special half-bridge circuit can accelerate the pulse trailing edge by controlling the signal of the charging switches. In this article, a six-stage self-triggered bipolar pulse generator was constructed. This topology can stably generate repetitive bipolar pulses on both resistive and resistive–capacitive loads, with an output voltage amplitude of$0\sim 4.5$kV, a pulsewidth of$0.3\sim 2~\mu $s, a frequency of$0\sim 5$kHz, and the interval time between positive and negative pulses can be flexibly adjusted. This pulse source is compact in structure and flexible in parameters, making it suitable for discharge application scenarios.
