Tunable Metal-Graphene Metasurface Based on Electromagnetic Induction Transparency and Its Sensing Properties Analysis
Abstract
In this article, a terahertz (THz) metal-graphene metasurface based on electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) is proposed. It is composed of a cross-shaped structure (CS) as the bright mode and four broken rings as the quasi-dark mode, with two graphene bands as the modulator. By tuning the lengths of both ends of the graphene ribbon, an EIT window can be achieved within the frequency range of 0.69–1.29 THz. Furthermore, graphene’s Fermi energy level may be changed to allow for a maximum modulation depth (MD) of 80.9%. Meanwhile, the EIT metasurface proposed in this article has the good stability to the angle of incidence and sensitivity to refractive index changes up to 356 GHz/RIU. The proposed EIT metasurface shows a great potential in THz frequency filters, optical signal modulation, and ultrasensitive sensing.
