Abstract

In the previous part to this paper a theory was derived providing a novel solution for the partial mutual inductance between the core and screen of a coaxial or pipe-type cable. This paper describes the experimental verification of that theory. The experiment looks at the emf induced into the screen of a coaxial cable arranged in rectangular loops of various length to width ratios but a constant total loop length. The emf on the screen is driven by a combination of the coaxial partial mutual inductance and the open–wire partial mutual inductance. The experimental arrangement allows comparison of existing and proposed theory, and how the mixture of the two theories allows an accurate result to be predicted. The results not only support the proposed theory, but also suggest that existing open wire theory at low frequency (ELF) needs further investigation.
