A Novel Independent PST Topology and Its Power Flow Regulation Characteristics
Abstract
As the grid structure and parameter settings grow increasingly complex, the natural distribution of power flow is prone to irrationalities. Current power grids urgently demand effective power flow regulation devices. Phase shifting transformer (PST), leveraging its advantages of high regulation capacity and cost-effectiveness, have been widely adopted globally. However, traditional PST lack a practical structural solution for decoupled amplitude-phase regulation. While independent PST (IPST) offer both a simple structure and two-dimensional regulation capability, they suffer from drawbacks like an abnormal regulation range and narrow adjustment zone. To address these issues, this paper proposes a novel independent phase shifting transformer. First, based on its topology, we analyze the input-output characteristics. Quantitative characterization of the device’s compensation range boundary is achieved by examining two constraint effects: those from the source side winding and load side winding. By integrating the bridge circuit commutation effect, we further expand the regulation area and double the number of adjustable points. Next, we derive the power flow regulation range expression using linear and translational transformations of the voltage characteristic equation. The dynamic variation patterns and extreme value formulas of the regulation range are then investigated. Finally, virtual simulations and physical experiments verify that this topology enables decoupled regulation with a simple structure. Compared to traditional independent PST, it effectively optimizes the regulation range and increases the number of adjustment points, supporting the efficient transmission of energy.
