A Sample Screening Method for Calculating Operating Envelopes of Distributed Energy Resources in Three-Phase Distribution Systems
Abstract
The operating envelope (OE) serves as an effective distributed energy resource (DER) management approach by providing the allowable active-reactive power regions under distribution system (DS) constraints. This letter proposes an efficient sample screening method to obtain OEs in three-phase DSs. First, we model the OEs as convex polygons on active-reactive power planes and define a reference OE to ensure the equitableness of OE allocation in two-dimensional power planes. Then, we propose an efficient OE calculation method by generating and screening the samples of reference OE to progressively obtain OEs which satisfy DS constraints. The proposed method is tested on balanced and unbalanced DSs. Compared with the Kornai-Liptak decomposition and the rectangle method, the proposed method obtains equitable OEs with larger allowable power ranges and shows higher computational efficiency.
