A Fault-Tolerant Power Processing Architecture for Resilient LVDC Networks With Integrated Photovoltaics
Abstract
This paper proposes a novel fault-tolerant power processing architecture for photovoltaic (PV) systems within low-voltage direct current (LVDC) networks, aimed at enhancing operational resilience and reliability in sustainable energy systems. The architecture integrates a bidirectional dc/dc converter for maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and a buck converter to supply a stable 24 V output from a 48 V LVDC bus, ensuring seamless operation for distributed consumer loads under varying environmental and fault conditions. Fault-tolerance is achieved through built-in redundancy and adaptive control mechanisms that support continuous operation during converter failures. The proposed system's performance is evaluated through comprehensive case studies and real-time hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing using the OPAL-RT platform. Results demonstrate the system's effectiveness in maintaining energy continuity and voltage stability, highlighting its potential for deployment in resilient, PV-integrated LVDC networks supporting sustainable energy goals.
