Random Access Performance Analysis in Satellite Remote Sensing and Communication Integrated Networks
Abstract
The demand for earth observation data is growing across numerous industries, while the real-time transmission capability for such data remains severely limited. The remote sensing and communication integrated network (RSCIN) has been proposed to enable the real-time downloading of massive earth observation data. However, the heterogeneous nature of the RSCIN introduces an inter-satellite access problem between communication satellites (CSs) and remote sensing satellites (RSSs), where access competition among the RSSs degrades the random access performance. Therefore, we leverage stochastic geometry (SG) to conduct a theoretical analysis of the random access performance within the RSCIN. Specifically, we model the RSS constellation using a non-isotropic Cox point process (NCPP) to capture the characteristics of sun-synchronous orbits. Based on this model, we derive the access probability from the CS perspective and a lower bound on the no-service probability from the RSS perspective. Furthermore, we investigate the impact of RSS and CS constellation configurations on the random access performance in the RSCIN. Finally, we conduct a comparison between the proposed NCPP model and the deterministic Walker-Delta constellation. Simulation results validate the accuracy of our theoretical derivations, and the developed model provides valuable insights for the design of future RSCINs.
