RIS-Assisted Finite Blocklength Ambient Backscatter Communication With Non-Linear Energy Harvesting
Abstract
Recent advancements in ambient backscatter communication (AmBC) have leveraged the surrounding radio frequency (RF) signals to address low-power communication issues for short packet communication. However, the limited energy available for these devices poses a significant challenge. In this paper, we investigate a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted AmBC system incorporating non-linear energy harvesting for both infinite and finite blocklength transmissions. For infinite blocklength transmissions, we derive expressions for outage probability and average achievable rate. For finite blocklength transmissions, we provide expressions for average decoding error probability, average achievable rate, and system goodput. The accuracy of these derived expressions are validated through Monte-Carlo simulations.
