Abstract

Translingual Practice: Global Englishes and Cosmopolitan Relations offers a sustained examination of how multilingual speakers negotiate meaning across linguistic and cultural boundaries in everyday educational contexts.Drawing on ethnographic observation, analyses of multilingual literacy practices, and classroom-based examples, the book argues that language use cannot be understood as movement between stable systems but as an interactional process shaped by history, power, and context.Canagarajah reframes English not as a fixed code but as a set of practices continually reshaped by speakers situated in unequal global and educational settings.By foregrounding meaning making through negotiation rather than conformity to norms, the book advances a view of language especially relevant to scholars concerned with education, inequality, and multilingual classrooms.
