Comment on: Effect of Probiotics on the Gut Microbiota After Colonoscopy: A Multicenter, Randomized, and Placebo‐Controlled Clinical Study
Abstract
Moreover, the authors report multiple taxon-level associations using LEfSe and unadjusted rank-sum tests; however, no false-discovery rate (FDR) correction was performed. In high-dimensional microbiome analyses, this can result in false positives. A previous study showed that LEfSe can produce false-positive taxa when FDR correction is not applied. Results may change when FDR correction and FDR-controlled methods such as ANCOM-BC or ALDEx2 are used [3]. Applying or reporting an FDR approach, like the Benjamini–Hochberg procedure, would allow for a more confident interpretation of the taxa-level associations [4]. Finally, we thank the authors for their valuable contribution and hope that addressing these points will further enhance the clarity of their work. The authors have nothing to report. The authors declare no conflicts of interest. Data sharing not applicable to this article as no datasets were generated or analysed during the current study.
