Abstract

Violence towards nurses in clinical work is a pervasive and enduring problem.Workplace violence is not a local problem, but a global phenomenon embedded into nurses' everyday professional experience. The papers in this special edition illustrate the ubiquity of violence regardless of country or care setting.Whether in Turkey, Italy, Egypt, Israel, Hong Kong, mainland China or Australia, verbal abuse is pervasive, physical aggression occurs regularly enough to be expected and bullying and harassment appear across both patient-facing and nurse-tonurse interactions.Students, interns and early-career nurses consistently face the highest rates, indicating vulnerability tied to inexperience.
