Hyperpigmentation in an Infant due to Vitamin B12 Deficiency: Case Report
Abstract
Learning Points Vitamin B12 deficiency in infants may present with neurologic and rare cutaneous signs such as distal hyperpigmentation. Maternal vegetarian or vegan diets during pregnancy and lactation increase the risk of infantile B12 deficiency. Early recognition and treatment with intramuscular hydroxocobalamin can prevent irreversible neurodevelopmental sequelae.
