Abstract

Cover credit: The cover illustrates base editing–mediated targeted evolution of Populus CesA8 and its impact on cellulose biosynthesis. Comparative wood anatomical and ultrastructural analyses reveal enhanced secondary cell wall architecture, with xylem sections and fibre cell wall micrographs highlighting increased wall thickness and cellulose density. Together, the image emphasizes the capacity of precision base editing of CesA8 to improve woody biomass traits without compromising overall plant growth.
