A contribution to the oribatid mite fauna (Acari, Oribatida) of Guanshan National Nature Reserve in Jiangxi Province, China
Abstract
The present study is based on the oribatid mite materials collected from soil and litter at different altitudes in Guanshan National Nature Reserve in Jiangxi Province, China. A list of 52 species and two subspecies, belonging to 41 genera and five subgenera in 34 families, is presented. Among them, three species, Plonaphacarus ishikawai (Aoki, 1980), Cosmohermannia robusta (Aoki, 1994) and Achipteria (Achipteria) acuta Berlese, 1908, are newly recorded in China, and one new species, Mesotritia guanshanensis sp. nov. (Oribotritiidae), is described. The new species is easily distinguished from other congeneric species by the presence of one median crista on prodorsum, rostral setae located posterior to level of lamellar setae, mutual distance between interlamellar setae shorter than that between lamellar setae, five pairs of genital setae, one pair of anal setae, adanal setae nearly equally distanced, and lyrifissures iad situated posteriorly of anal setae. In addition, an identification key to all known species of Mesotritia from China is provided to facilitate the further study on this group.
