Laser micromachining machine combining DLW, DLIP, and embedded monitoring for hierarchical laser surface texturing of complex parts
Abstract
We present a high-performance laser texturing machine developed within the SYNTECS project, designed for versatile hierarchical surface structuring from sub-micron to 200 µm scales. By integrating Direct Laser Writing (DLW), Laser-Induced Periodic Surface Structures (LIPSS), and Direct Laser Interference Patterning (DLIP), this platform achieves industrial processing speeds up to 6 cm²/min and an ablation efficiency of 5 µm³/µJ. An embedded inline monitoring system combining acoustic emission and optical diffractometry sensors ensures real-time process control and high repeatability. Applied to complex orthopedic implant geometries, the machine produces precise, reproducible textures with roughness comparable to abrasive blasting but with superior customization and reduced environmental impact. This innovative solution enhances productivity, quality, and sustainability, representing a significant advancement for industrial laser surface functionalization.
