Abstract

“Microdisplays” employing single-crystalline silicon sub-micron or deep-sub-micron CMOS for the active-matrix pixel cell backplane circuitry enable significantly higher pixel densities than thin-film transistors (TFT). Examples of >10,000dpi microdisplays have been shown, though on small screen diagonals. This is to report on general requirements, approaches and selected achievements towards UHD Display and Imaging for near-to-eye AR/VR/MR.
