Abstract

I will describe the use of structured light, namely propagation invariant (‘non-diffracting’) light fields and complex beam shaping for illumination light sheet imaging. Propagation invariant light fields, as the name suggests, retain their transverse intensity profile upon propagation. Bessel light fields and Airy light fields are prime examples of such beams The associated use of deep learning methods can add further value to image recovery and quality. More recent advances using attenuation compensation of fields [3], three photon light sheet imaging [4] and the use of side-lobe suppressed Bessel beams will be discussed. For the detection arm we will describe the use of structured light fields for point spread function engineering that can allow for very high resolution over extended depths. These areas can be augmented with appropriate choice of camera technology.
