Design of intelligent service robot for the elderly and disabled based on RDK-X5
Abstract
To address the increasing aging population and the care needs of disabled individuals in China, traditional service models face challenges such as insufficient manpower and delayed responses. Existing service robots also commonly suffer from weak natural language understanding and inadequate ability to execute complex tasks. This research designs an indoor service robot. The robot system uses the RDK-X5 as the main control platform, adopts a Web+ROS2 architecture and a pure host-computer scheme, and integrates sensors such as the BME688, millimeter-wave radar, and depth camera to achieve environmental and human body perception. It is equipped with dual 6-degree-of-freedom (DOF) manipulators, a lifting platform, and PICO 4 Ultra devices to support remote teleoperation. A differential-drive chassis adapts to complex indoor scenarios. Interaction is facilitated through a 13.3-inch screen and a cloud platform. The robot possesses intelligent perception, remote control, human-machine interaction, and autonomous navigation capabilities. Experimental results show: environmental parameter monitoring accuracy exceeds 98%, human anomaly recognition accuracy reaches over 95%, with response times consistently faster than 2 seconds; remote task success rate exceeds 90% with operation latency below 300ms; voice command recognition rate is over 92% with response times faster than 1.5 seconds; autonomous navigation success rate exceeds 96%, obstacle avoidance accuracy is over 98%, and average user satisfaction exceeds 4.5 points (on a 5-point scale).
