Abstract

Studying the meteorological drought characteristics of the Jing River Basin is of great significance for drought prevention. Based on the Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI), the drought characteristics of the Jing River Basin from 1970 to 2019 were analyzed. The results are as follows: (1) The SPEI index has high credibility in meteorological drought and can well reflect most of the drought changes in the Jing River Basin. (2) The annual-scale SPEI values in the Jing River Basin show an overall upward trend. (3) On an annual scale, the drought frequency in the Jing River Basin gradually decreases from north to south, with the most severe drought conditions occurring in the central areas. (4) In terms of meteorological drought, the Jing River Basin is most significantly affected by the Arctic Oscillation and the North Atlantic Oscillation.
